Haitian officials say President Michel Martelly has selected a recent top aide to former U.S. President Bill Clinton as his third nominee for prime minister.

They say Mr. Martelly chose Garry Conille for the post. Conille served as an aide to Mr. Clinton in his work as U.N. special envoy for Haiti.

Lawmakers rejection of Bernard Gousse, a controversial lawyer and former justice minister, delivers a major blow to President Martelly's efforts to get a new government in place nearly three months after taking office.

Haiti Cholera Operations Seriously Underfunded

The United Nations is holding a special meeting with donor countries to drum up support for its cholera treatment and control operations in Haiti. It says it has received less than half of the $175 million it needs to carry out its life-saving programs in the country.

The United Nations reports cholera cases throughout Haiti are slowly declining.
